The spirit of giving was truly alive as the BR Soldier Outreach (BRSO) volunteers recently came together to bring Christmas joy to our brave service members stationed overseas. On Saturday, October 2, 2024, our warehouse, located at 6150 Greenwell Springs Road in Baton Rouge, was a hub of activity as we dedicated ourselves to packing hundreds of festive Christmas stockings.

Delivering a Taste of Home, Together

These carefully prepared stockings are filled with a variety of treats designed to bring comfort and a sense of home to deployed soldiers in locations such as Afghanistan, Gaza, and Syria. Each stocking contains goodies like candy, chips, small games, heartfelt cards, and greetings from our incredible local community. Our simple aim is to offer a moment of holiday cheer to those who are selflessly serving our nation far from their loved ones.

Impressive Numbers Reflecting Our Heartfelt Effort

During this recent effort, the dedicated team of volunteers successfully packed an impressive 571 Christmas stockings. In addition to the stockings, we prepared 58 boxes of gallon-sized zip-closed plastic bags, ensuring that each troop would receive a special package. This resulted in a substantial shipment weighing in at a total of 1280 pounds of comforting snacks, engaging puzzles, and reading materials. The cost of this heartwarming initiative amounted to $2314.05.

Powered by the Generosity Around Us

This remarkable outpouring of support was made possible through the generous donations of goods from our valued sponsors like Lyons Specialty Company and the kindness of numerous community donors throughout the Greater Baton Rouge Area. Furthermore, financial contributions from approximately 17 businesses in Baton Rouge and beyond played a vital role in enabling this shipment to reach its destination. We are incredibly grateful for their support.

A Call to Action: Help Us Do Even More

The success of this recent packing event has, however, left our BRSO shelves in need of restocking. We are now reaching out to our community for further donations—tangible items to fill future stockings and financial contributions to help cover crucial shipping costs and ongoing operational expenses. We are also always looking for more volunteers to assist with stocking our warehouse on Greenwell Springs Road and supporting our vital mission.

The Need Continues: 1000 More Waiting for Our Support

There are still 1000 more soldiers who would greatly appreciate a touch of holiday cheer from BRSO. This is a meaningful opportunity for our community to impact the lives of these dedicated individuals directly, and we believe that together, we can make a difference.
